Venning’s opened in summer 2026 in the restored coach house and stable block next to The Railway Arms on Station Road. Their approach is simple: bake the bread fresh each morning, make as much as possible themselves, and buy from local suppliers wherever they can.

Drop in for breakfast, lunch or just a coffee, or grab something to take away. On Friday and Saturday evenings the café serves from its hatch, which works well alongside a drink in the pub’s large beer garden and courtyard next door.

The café is part of a bigger local success story. The Railway Arms was saved from redevelopment by local residents and in 2020 became Saffron Walden’s first community-owned pub, and Venning’s grew directly out of that community support. It’s a relaxed spot on the south side of town, handy if you’re arriving from the station end or taking a break from walking round town.

Whether you're meeting friends, taking a break from a walk around town or looking for somewhere welcoming to sit with a hot drink, Venning's is well worth a visit. There's plenty of outdoor space too, with the pub's large beer garden and courtyard right next door.
