Created in the 19th century by the Gibson family, a wealthy Quaker family of local brewers and bankers, Bridge End Gardens is one of the finest examples of a Victorian garden in the country and is listed Grade II* for its historic importance. After years of decline, the gardens were lovingly restored and are now cared for by Uttlesford District Council with the help of the Friends of Bridge End Garden volunteers.

Wander through a collection of distinct garden spaces, each with its own character. Highlights include the formal Dutch Garden, the fragrant Rose Garden, the tranquil Wilderness with its winding paths and mature trees, and the elegant summerhouse. The walled kitchen garden and the yew hedge maze are favourites with visitors of all ages, and a real challenge for anyone trying to find their way to the centre.

Whether you're after a quiet stroll, a picnic spot or somewhere for the children to explore, Bridge End Gardens is a lovely place to spend an hour or two. It sits right on the edge of the town centre, so it's easy to combine with a visit to the shops, cafés and market.
